Sick of political ads

I'm tired of political ads. While I try to keep up with politics and I know it's my duty as an American to know what's going on with my country and be active in it, I'm sick of all these ads! I've been seeing them for almost a year now and I'm done. I know who I'm voting for, don't need to see anymore ads.
Here's my point for this rant. Obama's 30 minute ad. 30 MINUTES people. Now, I know it was just one ad. But think about. How many people saw that 30 minute ad? Now let's fast forward 4 years. Next presidential election. Both candidates do just one 30 minute ad. Ok, little much but it's alright. Another 4 years in the future. Both candidates do three to five 30 minute ads.  Do you see where I'm going with this? We think the one and half minute ads are annoying. In 8 years we could begging to have those back.
There is a reason why infomercials are on between 1am and 5am. No one wants to see them. As interesting as a combination pizza oven and t.v. are we don't buy it. Or if we do we return it.  Obama is not an interesting combo pizza oven and t.v. We can't can't return him. No warranty. Thank goodness there's no buy one Obama, get one free.
Obama didn't lose my vote, because he never had it.  But now he's just annoyed me.  Obama is for change. He's changed the way political ads are going to be done in the future. So when you go out to vote, remember a vote for Obama is a vote for out of control political ads next election.
  Happy voting!!

One fish, two fish Emily Grace fish

Emily Grace is a fish! We went to the Trunk or Treat at church tonight. We couldn't stay for the whole thing because we had a meeting with our life insurance guy.  The kids were having a lot of fun. My nieces and nephews came and were having a blast.  Emily is only going to Trick or Treat her adopted grandparents this year. The Jinnette's and the Chases.
I'm also very proud of myself as this the first thing I've made without having to call my mom up for help or have her come help me with it. :D
Emily is the cutest fish I've ever seen.

Letter from the President

Emily Grace got her letter from the president today! It took a little longer then the 6-8 weeks then it said but it's here.  Pres. Bush's signature looks like it might be a stamp but Laura Bush's looks like it was hand signed. I'm so excited. The question is now where to put it.  Baby book, framed or tucked away like her blessing dress?

Baby food tip

Emily Grace loves her baby food. She'll go through one of those little jars in a single sitting. She likes the cereal but ever since she got a taste of mushed tasteless food she can't get enough of it.  So I've mixed the two. One big baby spoonful of slighty flavored mush mixed with rice cereal and I can make a jar of baby food last 2-3 days now. Baby food is pricey so making it last longer is wonderful for our budget.

Massage and splashing

I've been avoiding touching Emily Grace's legs because she had two shots in each thigh. Yesterday morning when I was changing her diaper I felt a lump on her leg. Right underneath where she got her shots.  I grab the phone and start calling the doctor's office while going through the diaper bag to make sure everything I would need all day is in there.  I get the doctor on phone and tell her what's going on.  And she tells me in this very calm voice " That's the serum from the shot.  That's why you need you massage it, to help the muscle take it in. " Massage it!? No one told me massage it! That's why my normal cheerful baby has been screaming since Tuesday!? I didn't say any of that, I just said " Oh, ok. Thank you. " Emily is still cranky but it's getting better.  The lump is SLOWLY getting smaller.  We've gone through almost all the baby tylenol and have been rubbing her legs.  At least now I know for next time.
When Doug got home he took Emily and started trying to cheer her up.  And had the great idea to fill up a small plastic tub with warm water to let her sit in out in the living room to help relax the muscle.  It's smaller then the bathtub so Emily could sit up in it by herself. ( Don't worry, Doug and I were on each side of her )  Since she wasn't in her bath chair she found a new fun thing to do. Splashing. She soaked the towel that it was on, Doug, me, the carpet and she got the dog.  She was giggling and happy.  We let her splash till the water started to turn cold. I'm going to have to remember this for when she's got a serious case of the cranks again. But maybe in the kitchen instead.

The downside

So I'm feeling like a terrible mom right about now. I know I'm not, but I kinda feel that way.  Emily Grace cried herself to sleep. She's been cranky ever since she got her shots yesterday. Crying, clingy etc... I've been trying to get her to sleep since about 9pm. She'd eat for a bit then start screaming, I'd rock her, she'd calm down then start screaming. I could just feel myself get frustrated with her. I know it sounds like a horrible thing. If you have kids you understand. If not, give me a call when this happens to you and I'll give you a listening ear. So I did what everyone told me to do. If your getting frustrated put the baby in a safe place and go calm down.  So I put Emily in her crib and walked away. I sat here on the couch and listened to her scream for about 2-3 minutes until she quieted down and I calmed down. When I walked over to the crib she was asleep. Then I felt like crying.  I know I did the right thing, but I feel horrible.  I hate these nights.

6 month check up

Emily Grace had her 6 month check up Tuesday. She weighed in at 18.1 pounds and is 27 inches tall. Big baby! She's 10 pounds heavier then when she was born! She's still in the 90 percentile for her height and weight. Dr. McCain said she's right on track with everything. But the poor thing got 4 shots. Two in each leg. We have to go back next month for the other half of her flu shot.  For children under 5 they give it in two shots.  She's been cranky and clingy since. I think she's starting to feel better. The good news for her is that she doesn't have another check up till she's a year old. Which if the next 6 months go by like the past 6 months will be here in no time. :(  Too big, too fast

Sitting Proud

Here's Emily Grace's six month picture. Before church she's dressed pretty casual since it doesn't start till 1pm. She hangs in her diaper, a t-shirt or a oneise. But check out what she's doing. She's sitting up!!!! If I put her in the sitting position she can sit up for a few seconds. Her record is 15 seconds.  My baby is getting so big! Btw she fell over once the flash went off. I think it startled her.

6 months

Emily Grace will be 6 months in less then an hour.  I am in shock. It's been half a year since she was born. Half a year? Isn't half a year a long time? It used to be. These past six months have gone by so fast.  She can do so many things now. She has likes and dislikes. I just can't wrap my head around the idea that's she's half a year old.  Emily Grace brings so much joy into our lives.   She has the most amazing gift, talent, trait or whatever you want to call it. She's happy. I mean really happy. She'll roll herself in to something, hit her head and while I'm cuddling her as she's crying she'll look up at me and give me a smile even while she's crying. She tried to happy even when she's upset.  As far as I'm concerned that's a talent.
Being her mom scares me like nothing else.  I'm always worrying about her in the back of my mind.  Things I didn't really worry about before are now a huge fear of mine.  But as scary as it is sometimes, it doesn't come close to how much love, joy and wonder I feel for her.  I love her so much.
I'll get a picture of her later today and post her 6 month picture

Undoing the diaper

Emily Grace has a brand new trick up her sleeve. Undoing the tabs on her diaper. Yesterday while I was changing her diaper I turned to grab something and I hear this funny little sound. I look over at Emily and one of the tabs has come undone. Ok, not a big deal, refasten it, turn around again, hear the sound again and turn around in time to see Emily with the tab in her hand giggling.  Now it's one of her favorite games on the changing table.  She did it four times this morning while I was putting her pants on her.  Isn't she a smart baby?

Clothes shopping with Daddy

We has such a fun day Saturday.  Emily Grace slept all through the night which she hasn't done in a couple weeks now so I felt great waking up. Doug and I are barely waking up cuddling when we hear her out in her crib. It was just one of those mornings where you just want to lay there for a few minutes. So we brought Emily into bed with us. Right in the middle between us. It was so nice. Then Emily decided she was being smushed and was ready to play.
After my Mary Kay meeting ( Yes, I'm starting to sell Mary Kay now so if you need anything! ) we went out to get diapers and such at B.J's.   Since Burlington Coat Factory is just across the street we stopped to look for clothes for Emily. She shot up this last month and no longer fits in any of her pants. It's getting colder and she needs warmer clothing.
The baby clothes I wanted to look at was crowded so Doug went to push Emily around in the cart while I looked. I was having the worst time finding anything. Not a good price, or not in her size. I found a pair of thin pants, a fleece track suit thing and this really cute bear hat. I go to find Doug and he's got clothes with him too.  3 complete outfits. A pair of jeans, with a yellow princess shirt and shoes for $10, a pair of bright pink corduroy pants, with a light pink smocked shirt and hot pink corduroy shoes for $10 and pink corduroy coveralls, white shirt and matching hat for $10.  Doug " Is this ok?" He found more clothes then I did for less. And when we held my stuff up against her it wouldn't have fit. Then he tells me there were some outfits for 12 months and we might want to pick up one at least since she's in size 9 months now. So we went over to where he went and got her another outfit, brown corduroy pants with flowers, striped shirt and matching hat for $10.  Corduroy is popular this season with babies I guess. He did so good. Doug also says Emily's easier to shop for ( clothing wise ) then me because she doesn't care yet.
