Doing something

Doug and I have been very blessed. While I'm not going to pretend that we don't have problems, we have it much easier then some people I know. The worst is when it's family. I hate seeing my family hurting and knowing there's not much I can physically do about it.  I can listen and that's about it. I was raised in a church where you DO something. Bring a meal, help them clean, watch kids but you DO something as well as listen. Not being able to DO something makes me feel helpless. But what do you physically do, when making brownies just won't cut it?

Catching Up

Things have been a bit crazy the past week , so there's a little catching up to do. Back on the 16th Emily Grace got sick for the first time. It was just a cold but it was so hard to watch. She was cranky, had a runny nose etc.. But the worst was part was her breathing. You know when you have a cold you have a harder time breathing at night. Doug and I were up most of the night just listening to her to make sure she was still breathing. I got her an appointment for the next morning and I took her into the doctors. It was just a cold, the doctor said we were doing everything right and she gave us a nasel spray to help clean her nose out since she can't blow her nose.
That Friday I had my wisdom teeth pulled.  Ouch. That about covers it. On the plus side eating only mushy food helped me dropped the last couple of pounds I needed to get to pre-baby weight!!! Yay!! It's not my goal weight but it's feels great to be back to pre-baby weight!!
Sunday evening at my parents house Emily Grace didn't just get her tummy off the floor. She got up on her hands and feet ( not sure why she decided not to get up on her knees ) and help it for about 10 seconds!!!!! She's getting so close to crawling.  We guessing she'll be crawling by the time her Grandma Teuscher comes to see her in Nov.
Well she just woke up from a nap that was much too short. So maybe I'll go nap with her.

Emily trying to chew on my toes

I'm learning how to use my silly new phone.  I was lifting Emily Grace up with my legs and she  tried eating my toes. Don't worry we were on my bed and she wasn't very high.  You can hear her babble though!

Cute Baby Contest

Emily Grace is the cutest baby ever. Yes I know she's my child so I'm prejudice but if I wasn't wouldn't you be a little worried?  So in an effort to get a nice college fund started I've entered Emily in a cute baby contest. The thing is I have to get 2,500 votes in one month! So how about this? Vote for my kid this month and tell everyone you know to vote for my kid this month and next month I'll vote for yours. Emily could win 2,500 for college. And yes I promise that is where it will go. Here's the link. Pass it along!

Or if the link doesn't work since I have terrible luck with links go www.greatsamericanphotocontest.com and find Emily Grace the caption is Happiest Baby with Blue Eyes.  Please, please, please vote!

Quirks!

I've Been Tagged! The Rules are....tell about 7 quirks of yours & then Tag 7 fellow bloggers to do the same, be sure to leave a comment to let them know.

1- I always organize my dishes before washing them
2- Except for Doug, it bugs me when someone doesn't lotion Emily up the way I do. Starting with the left leg, then her left foot, right leg, right foot, tummy, left arm, right arm and then the back. Baby powder in the armpits
3- I pour extra milk on my cereal so I don't have to get a glass to drink it
4- I match my M&M's up by color in sets of two then eat the odd ones first
5- On cold nights I wear socks to bed then take them off once I'm under the covers
6- I leave paper cranes everywhere
7- I have the same pattern when I walk in the door. Diaper bag on the table, keys on the hook, shoes by the crib

It's kinda fun to read about other people's quirks and know that I am not the only freak in the world. But since I don't read 7 other blogs I'm tagging anyone who reads this

5 months and the zoo

Emily Grace turned 5 months old yesterday. It's amazing. She is getting so big, so smart and sweeter everyday. She's starting to get up on all 4's now. She can keep her whole tummy off the ground for a minute or so now.
Krizy dropped her ball in front of Emily the other day, hoping once again she'll throw it. Instead Emily grabbed it and started chewing on it. Gross! Krizy gave me this look that clearly said " If you don't get my ball back right now, I will!" So Emily has her own ball to chew on. Krizy also hasn't dropped the ball for Emily since.
We took Emily to the zoo today for the first time. We thought the weather was going to be nice. It was HOT! The tigers, loins and hoofed animals were put away because of construction so a good chuck of the zoo was closed. We did see alot of animals. Emily was who in her stoller thought chewing on her stroller strap in her attempt to get out was the best part of the zoo.  We took pictures of a bunch of animals.  I still don't like goats. Their creepy eyed mean things. We stopped by the gift shop on our way out and picked up a stuffed bald eagle for Emily. Any guesses what she did with it? Yep. She chewed on it.  I'm thinking chew toys for Christmas.  I'm hoping to go back sometime when it's a little cooler out so we'll want to do things like take more pictures of us.

Waving

Emily Grace waved!!  She's been waking up right before Doug leaves for at 5am to see her Daddy off.  On Tuesday, I was holding her saying bye to him as he's going down the stairs and she waved!! I called to Doug, he turned around and she stopped. He waved at her but she wouldn't do it, till he turned around again! Maybe she'll do it again when he can see. She's getting so big!!!

Primary Songs

I sing Primary songs to Emily Grace. I grew up singing those songs and still used them when I got older.  I was just singing to Emily and even though I've heard these songs so many times a line struck me. In the second verse of "I Love To See The Temple"
" As a child of God I've learned this truth, a family is forever"
I started crying a little when I sang that line to Emily. Recently a family close to mine lost a loved one. His mother who I've known for years lost a son. His sister who I've just started to become good friends with lost a brother. His wife of just over a year lost her husband. And his infant son lost a father. But I'm lying when I say that.. They didn't lose him. I know family's are forever. He still is their son, brother, husband, father.  I can't imagine the pain their going through right now. I hope that through the pain they can find comfort in knowing they still have him. That he isn't lost. And that they'll see him again.
A couple months after I lost my Grandma my mom told me one of the hardest parts was not being able to have a face to face conversation. But on the plus side she didn't have to pick up the phone to talk to her.
My heart goes out to this family and to the other family's of this tragedy. My prayers are with them and I hope they can find the comfort to help get them through this.

Dream Home

We're getting out of the navy next year and so of course we're talking about wether to buy or rent a house in Idaho where we're hoping to end up.  We do know we want to build a house one day. Doug thought a log cabin might be nice but I wasn't sold on the idea. Well, we've been looking at them online and found some really nice ones.  We think we might have found our dream home. :D It's at www.logcastles.com It's the Victoria II model. There are still a few things we would change but it's so close to what we've talked about we going to try to find a way to make it happen.

Losing Baby Weight

I've been working on losing the baby weight and am now within 15 pounds of my pre-pregnancy weight. Breast feeding helps and hinders at the same time.  It does burn around 500 calories a day. You also need to eat an extra 300 calories a day.  You also have to watch out for working out too much so the milk doesn't dry up.  And of course your boobs get bigger. I went a C/D depending on the brand of bra to a DD/E.  So today when I tried putting on this black and white striped button-up satin shirt I bought before getting peggers I was so excited because as I'm buttoning it up it's fitting wonderfully. Until I get to the girls. I got the gap.  Where your boobs are too big and it barely buttons and has that lovely gap. Good news? Yay I fit into it again! Bad news? My boobs are too big!! Another little hidden bonus no one told you about breastfeeding
